The Big Year of Stephen King 2012 Calendar - And then Some!
Yo Gang!

As you may have heard Stephen King and the rest of the authors and artists that make up the Rock Bottom Remainders gave two farewell performances in late June. They decided since their founder and fellow band member, Kathi Kamen Goldmark, passed away from cancer in May, that they would make this their farewell shows.

Some of you may remember when we had Rock Bottom Remainders videos and CD's (we might have one CD left) offered here at the Overlook. It was Kathi who got in touch with us to offer these cool items from this unique and wonderful group. We offered them for years until she was sold out of them. I even got to see them in Atlanta on their 1993 tour. That was a fun show. Yeah, there were some squeaks here, and a twang there, but they were having a blast and it spread out throughout the crowd. I remember back at the hotel bar I spoke with Roy Blount, Jr. for awhile (who's a Georgia boy), and Dave Berry bought me a drink. It was a night to remember. I even got into the press conference they held at the Hard Rock Cafe earlier that day and was able to ask quite a few questions. Steve came right over after it was done and shook my hand. "If you hadn't have been here Dave, I don't know what would have happened." He was referring to the fact that no one in the press was asking questions. Frankly the press didn't know what to make of this "authors-turned-musicians" idea. I had plenty of questions and then that seemed to break the ice as others began to chime in.
That was the only time I was able to see them but glad I did.
Oh, and I did bring Steve my 1st printing of The Shining to sign and we took a couple of photos with an Overlook Catalog ta boot.
I'm very sorry to hear about Kathi's passing but she left behind a legacy with this unique band that's been playing now for 20 years. My guess is they'll be back again someday. When you get that "performing fever" it's never easy to give up.

The new Stephen King Calendar is now up for advance purchase! The Big Year of Stephen King is the theme and you can read what they're doing this year. This is always a big hit, and we have a huge order in. This is "not" offered at Amazon or any of the book stores, so order early and I will guarantee your copies. We will be shipping them in mid-October. Always a big holiday gift.

I thought I would check our stock and sure enough we're down to a hand full of these posters. We've sold a few in the last month what with the farewell performances, but the fact that this is from Steve's home town makes it that much more interesting. I've got one up in my library :-)

AMERICAN VAMPIRE 3 - The third hard cover in the American Vampire series is now up for purchase. Steve helped start this story and it won an Eisner Award for it! (the comics Oscar if you will ). I have kept up with the series and Scott Snyder is just a damn good writer. I'm starting to pick up his other work as well. We've got all this series in comics and hardcover at the Overlook, so stop on by and check out if you're missing anything from this great award-winning series.

That's it for me this week. I always think it's going to slow down with Stephen King, but I've been saying that for 25 years.. it's never happened.. thankfully :-) And I've got some surprises coming up that we'll announce soon. In the mean time...

Remember.. We All Shine On!

Stephen King
And many more guests!

Welcome to the 2013 Stephen King Library Desk Calendar. If you’re here for the first time, welcome. If you are a return customer, welcome back, Mr. Torrance. We’ve been expecting you.

King’s world has grown so much since we entered the Dark Tower for last year’s calendar theme. With The Wind Through the Keyhole: A Dark Tower Novel published in April 2012, we’re proudly carrying on the tradition of the ka-tet into this year with some discussion of that release. We’re also hot on the heels of King’s time-travel novel, 11/22/63—a phenomenal ride into the past.

For this year’s theme we’re once again headed into the past, where we’ll be celebrating King stories that all hit a memorable milestone this year: the 35th anniversary of The Stand and Night Shift, and 30 years for Christine and Pet Sematary—and more. I’ll let you discover the rest of the milestones for yourselves, but we’ll be reminiscing, discussing and sharing some dark and delightful trivia for them all. We’ll also share a glimpse into the places King will be taking us in the future, like catching us up with the child hero from The Shining, Danny Torrance, in the upcoming sequel, Doctor Sleep. Join us all year long!
The Stephen King Desk Calendars have been very popular here at the Overlook with our readers. It's especially been a great gift for friends and family to give.
