.. YO GANG! Man, I think we were all The Walking Dead yesterday on the set of this new zombie TV series by director Frank Darabont. Darabont, who produced some of the finest translations of Stephen King fiction to film (The Mist, The Green Mile) is in Atlanta filming Robert Kirkland's amazing series THE WALKING DEAD.
Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit with Frank and crew, including writer Robert Kirkland, producer Gale Hurd (Terminator, The Abyss), and special creature effects artist Greg Nicotero of KNB effects. We saw some of the filming of a house interior and exterior shots from the pilot episode being directed by Darabont. In this scene was Lennie Williams (from the Jericho series - which I'm a big fan of) and Andrew Lincoln (playing lead Rick Grimes). The image shown here is an official release from AMC for the series.
The six part series is currently being shot in Atlanta, GA and will premiere on AMC in October during Fearfest on or around Oct. 23rd (check listings at that time for exact dates). I'm working on a write up now and will be posting my visit a bit at a time on the blog. AMC, who brings you Breaking Bad, and Mad Men, are helming The Walking Dead, and they want the information to go out bit by bit for awhile to build the suspense... So keep checking the website as I post new photos and information. Michael Rooker has now been added to the series. I'm tellin' ya, from what I saw.. it's gonna be somethin' special gang.
Pick up Book One of The Walking Dead and you'll find out why Frank Darabont has been working for years to bring this to us. This zombie story is more about the survivors and what they have to do to survive. It's a story that is character driven, and this is what Frank Darabont is "great" at. So pick up book one and get started on this story. The series won't exactly mirror the series, which is good because you'll enjoy the books and the series on their own.

SPARES LETTERED EDITION - This special edition is one of the finest lettered's we ever produced by Michael Marshall Smith. Neil Gaiman is also a part of this project and both author's signed as well as artist Alan Clark.
