OVERVIEW: The Nightmare on Elm Street rocked the horror world when the first film was released. Featuring Johnny Depp's first film appearance this series also had a number of aspiring filmmakers who cut their teeth on the continuing saga of Freddy Kruger.  Frank Darabont (The Green Mile & The Mist) and Chuck Russell (The Mask) worked on the third installment, Dream Warriors (which starried a young Patricia Arquette). Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2 & The Long Kiss Goodnight) came to prominence with the ingeniously macabre fourth film, The Dream Master, coscripted by Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential). Wes Craven and original star Heather Langenkamp did return for the last film, New Nightmare (featured here in this collection), which presaged the tongue-in-cheek postmodernism of the Scream films and resharpened Freddy's ability to scare.
