I always hesitate when I put "gang" in my hello to you all ;-). How do you address thousands of people every week? Well, with a YO! of course. It's the gang part that has always made me chuckle. And if you're going to be part of a "gang" than what better company than a Book Gang right? Right. So YO GANG!
I didn't get a chance to address this last week, but our county was flooded last week, and in fact NBC & ABC were live just down the street from the Overlook! Of course LeeAnn and I couldn't go down and look because we were trapped on our street for 2 days! The main road that our subdivision is off of, became Morningside River instead of "street." The bridge that connects next to our street became a mini-Niagra Falls and we couldn't even see the bridge! Yes.. it was intimidating. The good news? We live at the top of a hill, along with the Overlook buildings.. so water just runs down both sides of the property and no chance of standing water. Well.. unless Noah plans on making a comeback, then none of us are safe. However WE ARE SAFE and DRY! And virtually we're back to business as usual, but it's taken it's toll on my time here at the Overlook.

Here Comes a Candle, first published in 1950, is Fredric Brown at his most unconventional and audacious a novel that, in many respects, was far ahead of its time. Psychologically complex, unconventionally told in an array of stylistic variations, it is a tour de force with a savagely ironic ending not to be soon forgotten and offers a grim look at the underside of a sanitized post-World War II America. With an illuminating new introduction by Bill Pronzini that provides a lot of biographical details, a bonus short story, (the savage The Joke) and a rare essay by Brown. Bound in three-piece cloth with a full color dustjacket.

INFERNO: New Tales of Terror and the Supernatural.
Edited by Ellen Datlow.
BARGAIN SALE EDITION!
Starred Review from Publishers Weekly!
OVERVIEW: As stated in her introduction to Inferno, Ellen Datlow asked her favorite authors for stories that would "provide the reader with a frisson of shock, or a moment of dread so powerful it might cause the reader outright physical discomfort; or a sensation of fear so palpable that the reader feels compelled to turn on the bright lights and play music or seek the company of others to dispel the fear." Mission accomplished. Datlow has produced a collection filled with some of the most powerful voices in the field: Pat Cadigan, Terry Dowling, Jeffrey Ford, Christopher Fowler, Glen Hirshberg, K. W. Jeter, Joyce Carol Oates, and Lucius Shepard, to name a few. Each author approaches fear in a different way, but all of the stories characters toil within their own hell. An aptly titled anthology, Inferno will scare the pants off readers and further secure Ellen Datlows standing as a preeminent editor of modern horror.
